MATCH REPORTSunday 4th October 2009Chiltern Youth League 2009/2010 – U14A – Division OneLEAGUE CUP GAME
ROUND ONE THREE SUPER SECOND-HALF STRKES HELP TO EASE BOROUGH THROUGH TO ROUND TWO!  LUTON BOROUGH YOUTH (A) (1) 4VSUNDON PARK RANGERS (A) (0) 0 THE MATCHFIRST-HALFWe started the game against our Second Division opponents playing a 3-5-2 formation. We kicked up the hill in the first half. Sundon Park Rangers flooded the midfield and we found it hard to get our passing game going. Then Anthony found George with a nice pass on 11-minutes, George went past the Sundon Park Rangers full back, pulled a good cross back and Adam brought a smart save off of the Sundon Park Rangers keeper. From the resulting corner Adam headed the ball goal-wards only for it to strike George on the goal line and bounce to safety.Jason then put in a good cross and Adam had a sharp chance, but fired over. Darius and Joe were now getting to grips in midfield and Louis was snuffing out the little danger that Sundon Park Rangers posed. From another good Joe corner, Louis brought a sharp save from the Sundon Park Rangers goalkeeper with a firm header. From the next corner another goal-mouth scramble ensued with Sundon Park Rangers chucking bodies in front of the ball to keep the score goalless. Two-minutes from half-time I swopped Harry for Adam and Harry made an almost immediate impact, when Darius released him with a fine pass and Harry’s shot went beyond the goalkeeper only for it to be cleared off of the line by the Sundon Park Rangers defender, but James followed up like all good strikers should do and the ball ricocheted off of him and in to the back of the net.HALF TIME SCORE 1-0 SECOND-HALFWe discussed at half-time that we must stay patient and more goals would come during the second-half. I made some changes at half-time, bringing Lloyd on for Tyler and Josh on for Jason. The second-half started much the same as the first, with Sundon Park Rangers sitting very deep and being negative and us doing all of the pressing. After the Sundon Park Rangers goalkeeper had made several good saves and we had missed several good chances, we finally scored our second goal and put the game to bed, when Harry released Anthony and he played a lovely 1-2 with Drew before pulling the ball back for James to fire home from close range, a great team goal!We added a third shortly afterwards, as Joe scored a fine individual goal when he picked the ball up just inside his own half, travelled 10-yards and from a full 30-yards lobbed the Sundon Park Rangers goalkeeper into the roof of the net.Five-minutes from time, Max knocked the ball of the day, when he knocked a 25-yard cross-field pass that found Josh and Josh also chipped the Sundon Park Rangers goalkeeper in to the far corner of the net.FINAL SCORE 4-0 MAN of the MATCH – LOUISA fine full debut for LBFC. Dealt with any Sundon threat there was and played through our midfield at every opportunity. SPECIAL MENTIONSTo:MAX – For knocking a superb 25-yard cross-field pass, which was worth getting out of bed to see. Also to:JOE – For yet another fine individual goal in his LBFC career! NIGEL’S VERDICTThis was another game that you just have to make sure you win and progress to the next round from. This match with Sundon Park Rangers gave me the opportunity to give players who hadn’t had a run-out a game.I found Sundon Park Rangers tack-ticks very negative and they did tend to spoil the game as a spectacle. We played good football in patches and some players have given me some nice selection problems to have before the League clash with Crawley Green.I do believe we are getting stronger with every game as the new and old players bed themselves in together. We won’t play many games this season when Aaron didn’t have to make a save in the whole game........................................................................................................................

MATCH REPORT

Sunday 27th September 2009Chiltern Youth League 2009/2010 – U14A – Division OneLEAGUE GAME DARIUS INSPIRES SECOND-HALF FIGHT BACK!  LUTON BOROUGH YOUTH (A) (1) 3VBEDFORD TOWN EAGLES (2) 3 THE MATCHFIRST-HALFOur second League game of the season saw us take on another footballing side in Bedford Town Eagles. I kept faith in the side that started against St Joseph’s two weeks ago with only Lloyd coming in for Josh who was unavailable.Bedford Town Eagles started much better than us and we were losing the midfield battle within the first
5-minutes, but then against the run of play we took the lead when Harry released Anthony with a lovely pass, Anthony’s two quick feet did the rest as he left two Bedford players sitting on the floor as he pulled the ball back for James to fire home from the 6-yard box. This should have given us the perfect platform to build on and although Jason fired over shortly afterwards and Harry brought a save from the Bedford goalkeeper, when maybe he should have scored, it was still Bedford Town Eagles playing the better football with the better movement.
It was no surprise when Bedford Town Eagles finally equalised when defensively we switched off from a throw-in and the Bedford Town Eagles striker raced clear and fired in from close range. Two-minutes later Bedford Town Eagles were in-front, when again we gave the ball away at the back and the Bedford Town Eagles striker raced clear to fire past Aaron from a narrow angle.HALF TIME SCORE 1-2 SECOND-HALFAt half-time I told the boys in no uncertain terms that I was not happy with their first-half display and was more disappointed that Bedford Town Eagles wanted to win more than we did.I took Drew and Jason off and replaced them with Louis and Darius, Louis making his debut for LBFC. The boys tore in to Bedford Town Eagles from the restart and Bedford Town Eagles were now camped in their half after wave after wave of our attacks. Nathan thought he had grabbed the equaliser when his shot was half-parried by the Bedford Town Eagles goalkeeper and seemed to cross the line before the Bedford Town Eagles defender hooked the ball away to safety.Harry then fired over from a good position after a good ball in from George who had come on for Nathan. Just as it looked as though it wasn’t going to be our day with 15-minutes to go we got our deserved equaliser when Joe’s corner caused mayhem in the Bedford Town Eagles box, the ball broke to Darius, who took one touch before slamming the ball into the back of the Bedford Town Eagles net making it 2-2.We were now going all out for the winner, with all our good things going through Darius, who released Anthony who fired just over the crossbar, then from Dereece’s long throw Joe rose like a salmon, but his head had drifted just over the top of the crossbar. Then with 4-minutes to go we got done by a sucker punch when Max and Dereece both dived in, but both missed their tackles and the Bedford Town Eagles striker was away again, he took his shot very early and caught Aaron slightly out of position and the ball flew into the back of our net.I immediately went three at the back, taking Max off and putting Adam on as an extra striker and with 30-seconds left we got an equaliser which was the least we deserved for our second-half performance. The goal came from Dereece’s long throw, with first Joe and then Darius flicking the ball on, it ended up at George’s feet and he fired a cross shot that hit the inside of the post and rebounded back into the net.FINAL SCORE 3-3 MAN of the MATCH – DARIUSA super performance, he changed the game as soon as he came on and also scored! SPECIAL MENTIONSTo:LLOYD – Had an excellent all-round game and was one of our better defenders on the day. Also to:JAMES – Who had an excellent first half when others around him did not, and held the ball up very well! NIGEL’S VERDICTWith two League games now played it appears that we are in for another rollercoaster season. I experienced every emotion that a manager can again this Sunday. In a cracking encounter Bedford Town Eagles will go home feeling hard done by that they didn’t take all three points as they had scored so late, but our second half performance deserved at least a point out of the game and it was great that the boys responded to their half-time team talk.We showed great character Sunday to come from behind twice and although defensively we were poor, it was great to see how many chances we created although it would have been better to see us take a few more!Well done boys! .......................................................................................................................

MATCH REPORTSunday 20th September 2009Chiltern Youth League 2009/2010 – U14A – Division OneCOUNTY CUP GAME SIX-UP BOROUGH PROGRESS TO ROUND TWO!  BARTON ROVERS (1) 1VLUTON BOROUGH YOUTH (A) (4) 6 THE MATCHFIRST-HALFWe drew Barton Rovers for the second year running in the County Cup. The game was played on a very small pitch, but I decided to keep with the formation I had planned to play with even though space was going to be at a premium. We lined up 4-3-1-2 with Anthony being the free man. We started the game very brightly and went in front after
4-minutes when Lloyd played a lovely ball to George who took the Barton Rovers fullback on, pulled his cross back and Harry side-footed the ball home from 6-yards.
We continued to dominate the game with Anthony popping up all over the pitch and doing some great touches. Anthony, Joe and James all went close, without adding to our tally. We finally did add to our tally when Anthony’s quick feet released Harry and then Harry hammered the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. Five-minutes later we switched off from a free-kick and a ball into our box eluded everyone, including Aaron and ended up in the corner of our net. We responded immediately from conceding our first goal of the season and went straight down the other end and scored two quick goals, with great work from Joe and George which saw James riffle the ball home from close range. Then Anthony’s long cross was turned in by George.HALF TIME SCORE 1-4 SECOND-HALFThe second-half continued in the same pattern, with us in total domination of the game and Aaron’s only work was to deal with back-passes. Joe was now dominating the centre of midfield and we created several more chances without adding to our tally. We finally got our fifth goal when Harry forced the ball over the line from close range to complete his hatrick after good work from Jason, and Joe again. We completed the scoring 5-minutes from time, when Jason’s driven cross missed everyone in the box and Nathan came in at the back post and finished from an acute angle.FINAL SCORE 1-6 MAN of the MATCH – JOEA great first half and an excellent second-half for his tackling and passing stood out! SPECIAL MENTIONSTo:ANTHONY – Had a great first-half, showed some great touches and was very unlucky not to score. Also to:GEORGE – Had a hand in three goals, plus scored one himself in a lively first half! NIGEL’S VERDICTA no-win game for myself as everyone expected us to get through to the next round anyway, but this was a good opportunity for me to give everyone a run out and on a small pitch and a very warm day for the time of year, it was still a good performance.Barton Rovers never gave up and showed great character fighting till the end. I am sure harder tests await us in this Cup Competition, but on the day it was job done!Well done boys! .......................................................................................................................

Match ReportSunday 13th September 2009LUTON BOROUGH YOUTH U14AChiltern Youth League 2009/2010 – Division One ANT’S CALM STRIKE GETS THE BOROUGH OFF TO A WINNING START!  LUTON BOROUGH YOUTH (A) (0) 2V
ST JOSEPH YOUTH
(0) 0 Welcome to the new season of 2009-2010, where we will be embarking on a new journey after our promotion to Division One - I am sure it will be another roller coaster ride, so hold on very tight! THE MATCHFIRST-HALFWe couldn’t have been given a harder start than having to entertain last seasons Division One Champions on the first day of the season. We started the game with a 4-4-2 formation, with Anthony, Drew and Aaron all making their LBFC league debuts! The game started positively and we tried to get our passing and movement going, but the game was being played at a very high tempo from both sides and both sets of players had little time to settle on the ball. St Joe’s had their first chance when a long shot from their centre mid was easily debt with by Aaron. Two minutes later Josh got caught the wrong side of the St Joe’s striker and the striker raced through to bare down on goal, but screwed his shot wide.We then started to play our way into the game and Nathan raced away from a Joe pass but pulled his cross behind James and Harry. Five-minutes before half-time Dereece when on a mazy-run and delivered a fine low cross, but James and Harry had both strayed into an off-side position. HALF TIME SCORE 0-0 SECOND-HALFWe talked at half-time at how well we had competed all over the pitch and defensively we looked sound. The second-half started with us much more on the front foot. Nathan almost gave us the lead when he cut into the box and his low shot was saved by the St Joe’s Goalkeeper. Five-minutes later Harry raced clear, only for the St Joe’s goalkeeper to beat him to the ball and as the ball ricocheted back off harry and bobbled agonisingly wide. Two-minutes later St Joes had their best chance of the game when the ball bobbled around in our area and the
St Joe’s strikers first shot was blocked by Aaron’s legs and as the ball rebounded back to him he set himself to stroke the ball home when Aaron’s hands appeared from nowhere and grabbed the ball – a super-double-save!
Aaron threw the ball to Dereece and Dereece went on an incredible run from our box into the St Joe’s box only to be denied a fantastic goal by a super save from the St Joe’s goalkeeper. The game had now become end-to-end.With 15-minutes to go I took James off and put on Darius for his LBFC league debut and George came on to replace Nathan to make his LBFC debut as well.I changed our formation to a 4-4-1-1 with Anthony playing just behind Harry. With 12-minutes to go, Jason won the ball in midfield and Joe released Anthony with a ball over the top, Anthony bore down on goal and it seemed to take an eternity before he finally decided to shoot, but with that he then calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the net.We then tried to not sit too deep and tried to keep going forward rather than hold on to what we had got. Drew won an excellent tackle and fed Max the ball who sent a perfect 30-yard pass to George who accelerated through on goal only to be denied by another fine 1-on-1 save from the St. Joe’s goalkeeper. With four-minutes to go we made the point safe when Anthony wiggled his way through again and his shot was half-saved by the St Joe’s goalkeeper and Adam who had come on to replace Harry with 7-minutes to go prodded the ball home from close range. St Joe’s then won a free-kick on the edge of our box which Aaron went full-length to save to protect our clean sheet. FINAL SCORE 2-0 MAN of the MATCH – AARONA fine debut display. Aaron made some excellent saves but more importantly made than at crucial moments in the game! SPECIAL MENTIONSTo:ANTHONY – Had a quiet first-half, but exploded into life in the last 20-minutes to score one goal and then set the other one up!Also to:DEREECE – Who had an excellent game, not only defensively, but he also went on two amazing runs that could of easily yielded him two goals! NIGEL’S VERDICTWithout a doubt a baptism of fire into Division One, by having to play last year Division One Champions in our first game. I asked the boys before the game to do themselves justice and they did that and more. To compete all over the pitch like we did against an excellent St Joe’s side was very pleasing. You always had the feeling during the game that whoever scored the first goal would go on to win the match and as it happened that is how it turned out.I have no doubt that St Joe’s will bounce back stronger from this defeat and although it is nice to secure 3-points on the first day of the season, we must make sure that we use this as a platform to build a successful season from.Well done boys! .......................................................................................................................  Enter supporting content here
