The bar will be open for when you arrive back and its a good social occasion. The boys are safe to be on their own as we don't go anywhere near roads and when your'e drinking in the bar afterwards they can be playing outside in the sun. Providing the weather is good, that is!

Match Reports

Saturday 3rd May

Luton Borough  8  Sundon Pk Rgrs  0

Manager Tony Aina brought both full backs in to mid field for this match to try a more attacking formation. Borough started well and no tackle was missed. Within five minutes of the start, Jack Catlin and Adam Hughes linked up resulting in a goal for Adam. When Sundon did break out Aaron Maltman and Brandon Sheldon were there making good challenges. In the seventh minute Mathew Aina ran down the left and crossed for  Adam to net his second. Another two minutes and Adam showed great intelligence in passing back to Jack instead of losing the ball going forward, and then Jack scored with a long shot. Sundon didn’t give up but a few minutes later and Mathew threw the ball to Brandon who once he’d controlled it he shot and scored the fourth. Luton were passing the ball around well and many more shots without success, until near to half time when after the ball had been pinged about in their area eventually Ashleigh Jecka put it away for his first goal.

Any thoughts of a come back were immediately dismissed as straight from the kick off Brandon passed down the left to Ashleigh who passed to Adam who scored. Sundon deserved a lot of credit for keeping going and continuing to hassle Borough. Another pass from Brandon to Ashleigh and he made no mistake. Sundon eventually scored through sloppy defending for once by Borough, but they still weren’t finished. Ashleigh completed his Hat-trick after yet another pass from Brandon. There were no poor performances from Borough but Ashleigh picked up the Man of the Match award.

Saturday 26th April

Luton Leagrave  2  Luton Borough  1

This was a shocker for Borough. They thought it was going to be easy because they’d won the league the week before. Well they got a short sharp shock from a fighting Leagrave side in the first half. Ben Chesnutt in goal kept Borough in it and even the goal that was scored he saved first  and then it ran over the line. That was in the fourth minute and set the tone for the rest of the half. Borough watched Leagrave have chance after chance and still refused to tackle them.

After half time Borough came out with a bit more fight about them and Dean Hodges received a long ball out of defence from Brandon Sheldon and scored the equaliser. You would have thought that Borough were going to go on and win at that point, but Leagrave had other ideas. Their fighting spirit was tremendous and they embarrassed Borough by nicking a winner. Well done to them, and Borough got what they deserved.

Ben Chesnutt was Man of the Match.

REDS REIGN SUPREME

Ampthill 0  Luton Borough  2

Borough made the title safe with this win, but it wasn’t an easy win by any means. They had to be very aware of Ampthill’s attack who were very threatening on the break. Luton had most of the play though and in the 6th minute a cross from Andrew O’Conner from the right was headed on by Adam Hughes to Dean Hodges who buried it from close range. The goal eased the nerves and Borough held out competently until half time, with Jack Catlin and Adam both having good shots at goal but just over the bar.

The second half they were still in charge, but the many Borough position changes seemed to affect Ampthill’s confidence. With ten minutes to go Borough were awarded a penalty for handball and confusion was rife in the Borough team as they tried to decide who was going to take it. In the end Adam took it and hit the bar. (Note to Manager. Decide on penalty taker before the game!!)

Anyway Enough of that!  The game was made safe in the last five minutes when goalkeeper Ben Chesnutt hurried a kick down field and the Ampthill goalie fumbled to let it in. Manager Gordon missed it going in because he was busy rollicking Ben for hurrying when we were 1-0 up. Although all players did well, the Man of the Match award went to Adam who played in three different positions and never stopped running and tackling putting Ampthill under pressure whenever they got the ball.

CONGRATULATIONS REDS

One More Win

Luton Borough  2 St Josephs  1

One more win from the final three games will secure the league for Borough. St Jo’s were the only team to have beaten Borough this season and they were looking for revenge. St Jo’s made it hard for them though and never gave up. Managers Gordon Attwell and Tony Aina asked the boys for a fast start to this game and they delivered magnificently. In the first minute Brandon Sheldon passed back to Jack Catlin who shot and Dean Hodges nearly scored. Just a minute later Brandon shot from outside the area and scored. Brandon had another go shortly after and was really playing with confidence. After the first five minutes you would have been forgiven for thinking that it was going to be easy but the second goal didn’t come as quickly as expected and St Jo’s fought back well and defended strongly. Even so, the game was being controlled by Borough and they doubled their tally after a good dribble from Dean Hodges and a pass to Adam Hughes who made no mistake. So 2-0 up and looking good. Until the dreaded mistake in defence saw St Jo’s pull one back before half time. Admittedly it was an unstoppable shot giving goalkeeper Ben Chesnutt no chance, but the striker should never have got himself in that position in the first place. Borough have the meanest defence in the league with only 12 goals scored against them all season, but probably eight of those came from very silly mistakes. The second half was all about Borough trying to secure the third goal and St Jo’s defending well and trying to hit back on the break. It all came to nothing in the end and the score line remained the same. Borough had a few chances with Aaron Maltman hitting the bar after a corner and Jack having a shot which went just over. Andrew O’Conner at one time went in to the tackle with three of the opposition around him and he still came out with the ball and there followed a bit of a shooting gallery with St Jo’s really under the cosh but they prevailed and the score stayed the same. A good performance by all the boys and Mathew Aina just edged out Adam for the Man of the Match award.

Saturday 5th April

Sundon Pk Rangers 0  Luton Borough  8

Borough didn’t have a great start to this match and seemed to be still asleep, but the alarm clock went off after ten minutes with a couple of shots from Dean Hodges. The first after a pass from Adam Hughes wizzed by the post and the second from outside the box was fumbled by their keeper and the ball slowly crept over the line. Mathew Aina straight from the kick off, won a tackle and shot just over the bar. Sundon never gave up and cleared good efforts from both Jack Catlin and Mathew, but just before Half time a good pass from Andrew O’Conner and then Adam, saw Dean put away his second. In the second half substitute Brandon Sheldon came on and immediately got stuck in to some tackles and linked up well with Dean down the line. Ashleigh Jecka who hadn’t played for a while also came on and played like he had never been away, dribbling well and getting a good shot in which went just over the bar. Borough were now showing their class and passing the ball around like professionals. Brandon passed to Dean who passed to Adam who scored to make it three. Only a minute later Adam put the Sundon defence under pressure again winning a tackle and scoring his second. Sundon were now camped in their own half and Borough piled on the pressure forcing another corner. Jack having had too much weetabix, curled it straight in to make it five. In the next five minutes Borough scored two more from Jacks corners, both being met by Dean. The second by a sweet volley to notch up his fourth goal.  The eighth came just before full time, from a pass by Ashleigh to Mathew, who turned on the edge of the area and shot well. Tony Aina gave the Man of the match award to Jack for listening and keeping it simple, with no flash stuff and having confidence on the ball. Apart from the first five minutes it was good stuff and a pleasure to watch.

Saturday 29th March

Bushmead Wanderers  0  Luton Borough  1

Borough played well in this match against a Wanderers side that were determined to stop Borough scoring. It worked well and there was no score at half time with most of the play taking place in midfield and not many chances arising. Bushmead had done a good job because Borough had the advantage of the wind and the slope.

The second half Borough started to attack more, but this meant that there was the occasional chance for Bushmead, but Ben Chesnutt in goal was equal to anything they could throw at him. There was a chance for Mathew Aina from outside the box which powered against the post, and then later Jack Catlin went on a forward run and had a  shot that could only be parried by their goal keeper straight to Dean Hodges who blasted it in for the winner. The rest of the half was a nervous but competent time for Borough who saw it out safely. Five games to go and four points in front. It’s looking good for Borough’s title aspirations as long as the boys continue to put in the hard work.

Man of the Match went to Ben Chesnutt in goal.
