Brache
Sparta v Luton Borough Dragons – 26 January 2008
Borough lost the
toss and found themselves kicking up hill on a large bobbly pitch. Brache started well and during the first 10 minutes Borough
found it difficult to get out of their last third. The home team had all the pressure and forced several corners without really
troubling Daniel Coles in the Borough goal. They also had an apparent stonewall penalty not given by the referee. As the half
moved on Borough started to have more possession and on 15 minutes a rare foray into the Brache half produced the first goal,
Matthew Bentley’s cross to the far post found Lee Perry unmarked for a calm finish. The rest of the half was pretty
even as Borough grew in confidence and the teams went into the break at 0-1.
Lining up facing downhill and with the kick off, the Borough boys were sent out for
the second half with instructions to put early pressure on the debutant Brache keeper. However within 15 seconds of the restart
the teams were level, Ebrahim Sanyang lost possession in the centre of the park and then a miscued Ben Wiles clearance fell
to a Brache attacker who gave Coles no chance for 1-1. The boys responded well
to this set back and were back in front 2 minutes later when James Harris chased a long through ball, rounded the keeper and
slotted the ball just inside the post. Brache had the best of the possession as they pressed for a second equaliser. Bentley
and Harris had half chances to make the game save but were unable to convert them and this led to a nervous last few minutes. However the Borough defence stood firm with Wiles and particularly Josh Deacon
making several important tackles. Coles was also in good form and he made one outstanding save preventing a long range effort
from hitting the top corner.
The final score
was 1-2 with Josh Deacon awarded man of the match.

Borough started
the game well but found Eaton Bray determined in defence. The first goal came after 8 minutes when Ebrahim Sanyang ran the
ball from the edge of his own goal area to set up Liam Charlton for a simple finish. More or less straight from the restart
Charlton made it 2-0. Three minutes late Lee Perry scored from a Matthew Bentley cross and Charlton completed his hat trick
after 13 minutes with a toe poke after a solo run. Having established a commanding lead wholesale substitutions were made
and Danny Fountain was unlucky not to score just before half time when he got on to the end of a James Harris through ball
but shot just past the post. At half time Stefan Wells donned the keeper’s jersey to give Daniel Coles a rare run out
on pitch. The only goal of the second half came after 14 minutes when Perry found the corner of the net with a shot from the
edge of the area. With two minutes to go Thomas Willett was crudely tackled in the penalty area and a spot kick was awarded.
Willett took the kick himself but it was saved by the Bray keeper and Bentley blasted the rebound over the bar. The final
score was 5-0, the parents’ man of the match was Lee Perry and Ebrahim Sanyang was also outstanding. As with Daniel
Coles in the first half Stefan Wells kept a clean sheet without touching the ball.

Borough dominated possession but
found it difficult to string any moves together on a very large and sticky pitch. A combination of resolute defending and
inspired saves from the Park keeper meant that we reached half time at 0-0. The second half continued to be played in the
Park half of the pitch and after 7 minutes the deadlock was finally broken when Matthew Bentley put the ball in the net after
3 attempts. 7 minutes later Bentley made it 2-0 from aLiam Charlton cross. The
Park keeper continued to perform heroics to prevent any further goals, whilst at the other end Daniel Coles did not touch
the ball at all.
Man of the match was Josh Deacon
who must have covered every inch of mud on the pitch.

This game was played in atrocious
conditions with a cold biting wind and heavy rain throughout.
Borough dominated
possession but surprisingly did not take the lead until the 10th minute when a shot from James Harris took a couple
of deflections before creeping over the line. The lead was doubled just before half time when Liam Charlton slotted home after
a solo run. During the half time interval it was apparent that the conditions were taking their toll and Ben Wiles had to
be substituted to seek the warmth of a car heater.
Borough started the second half
as they had ended the first and quickly made it 3-0 when Charlton finished after a good run a through ball from Matthew Bentley.
The under pressure Blues defence was beaten again a few minutes later when a defender deflected a Lee Perry corner into his
own net. The final goal came from another Perry corner which Bentley hooked in at the near post.
The parents’ man of the
match was awarded to Daniel Coles who managed to stay warm and made a coupe of important saves. Lee Perry was outstanding
in midfield.

Luton Borough Dragons v St Martins Orange – 1 December 2007
After not having a match for two
weeks this proved to be Borough’s toughest game so far in Division 2. Although Borough dominated the early possession
a strong cross wind and a determined and physical St Martins side meant that most of the early play was concentrated in the
midfield area. The deadlock was broken after 6 minutes when Lee Perry intercepted a St Martins goal kick and drilled the ball
past a helpless keeper. Three minutes later Matthew Bentley made it 2-0 with a low shot from the edge of the area. On the
stroke of half time a well taken Perry corner fell to James Harris who finished from close range.
All three
subs entered the fray for the second half and within two minutes Liam Charlton made an impact by converting another Perry
corner. St Martins pulled a goal back 4 minutes later when a long clearance deceived the Borough defence and Daniel Coles
was given no chance by the Martins striker. Borough continued to dominate and should have added further goals but Bentley
and Charlton both missed good chances. Two minutes from time Ebrahim Sanyang won the ball and battled through several challenges
before setting up Bentley who converted from close range. The final score was 5-1 and the supporters’ man of match was
awarded to Ebrahim Sanyang.

St Josephs v Luton Borough Dragons – 10 November
2007
This game brought together the two sides in Division 2
with a 100% record and also saw Borough play with a size 3 football for the first time. The first five minutes was tight with
most of the play concentrated in midfield, but in the 7th minute Liam Charlton broke clear of the St Josephs defence and calmly
slotted the ball past the St Joes keeper for a 1-0 lead. After 11 minutes an
excellent run and cross from Charlton enabled Lee Perry to sweep home the second.
A minute later the favour was returned as Perry crossed for Charlton to make it 3-0. St Joes pushed to get back in the game
with their number 5 looking particularly dangerous but the Borough defence held firm and a couple of brave saves by Daniel
Coles ensured that it remained 3-0 at half time.
The second
half started as the first had finished with St Joes looking to get back into the game but thanks to some good goalkeeping
and poor finishing they were unable to break through. The next goal came 9 minutes into the half when James Harris found the
corner of the net after a good Borough move to make it 4-0. The rest of the half was quite comfortable for Borough although
St Joes did manage a consolation goal 5 minutes from time. Final score 4-1.
Their were several
impressive performances from the Borough boys but Lee Perry was deservedly named man of the match for a performance in which
he must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch.

Luton Borough v Brache Sparta - 3 November 2007
Brache dominated the early possession without really troubling Daniel Coles in the Borough goal. It was against the
run of play when Matthew Bentley opened the scoring with a brilliant solo run and finish to make it 1-0 to the Dragons. This
was quickly followed by a break away goal from Liam Charlton to make it 2-0. Just before the interval Brache pulled a goal
back to make it 2-1 at half time.
After a bit of a talking to during the break, Borough came out fired up
for the second half and dominated play from the first whistle. Two further goals each from Charlton and Bentley plus a cracking
lob from Lee Perry saw the dragons run out comfortable 7-1 winners. The parents’ man of the match was Liam Charlton.
Team: Daniel Coles, Stefan Wells, Josh Deacon, Lee Perry, Thomas Willett, Mattew Bentley, Liam Charlton, Ben Wiles,
James Harris, Ebrahim Sanyang, Danny Fountain.
